Jamie Overton is an all-rounder who currently plies his trade for Surrey, as well as having represented his country. He can reach speeds of over 90mph with the ball, and has established as reputation as a hard hitting ‘finisher’ in the white ball game.
Born in Devon, Jamie, with his twin, Craig, played cricket for the South West NCA county through the age groups. He was a member of the England Under-19 team that won the 2012 Under-19 World Cup in Australia. He was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 17 wickets at an average of 14.82.
He made his first class debut for Somerset in 2012, taking four wickets on debut. He continued to be a valued member of the Somerset side – as well as attracting recognition from national selectors. He was picked in the England ODI squad in 2013. Although injuries plagued progress in 2017 and 2018, performances in county cricket on his return led to an England lions call up in February 2019, for their tour to India.
In search for a few more opportunities with the bat to add to his over 300 FC wickets, Jamie moved to the capital, signing with Surrey in 2020. He has moulded himself as a finisher with the bat in the white ball game – attracting great acclaim during his multiple stints with Team Abu Dhabi in the ADT10, where was named MVP.
After a great start to the 2022 county championship season, and with England looking for express pace in their attack, Jamie made his test debut against New Zealand in June 2022. He made an instant impact with ball, taking three wickets. However, it was his punchy 97 (136) with the bat to start England’s new era with a win that wrote the headlines.
2023 season provided more opportunities for Jamie, helping Surrey win back to back Championship titles, a successful spell with Manchester Originals in The Hundred and an excellent time with Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash Dec/Jan 24.
Sadly a reoccurring back problem limited much of the summer of 2024, although an IT20 debut came against Australia as a batter only, in September at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
