Craig Overton

Craig Overton is an all-rounder, making a name for himself as one of the most effective opening bowlers on the county circuit as well as a powerful lower-order batsman.

Having grown up in Devon, Craig started his career with Somerset in 2012 and has been a key player ever since. His consistency with both bat and ball helped Somerset to reach the finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup in 2016, as well as the County Championship in 2017.

In 2017, Overton’s hard work paid off when he was selected for the England squad for the Ashes series in Australia. He made his Test debut in the fourth Test in Melbourne, where he put in a stellar performance by picking up four wickets in the match and scoring 41 runs in the second innings. He showcased his skills as a lower-order batsman in that innings, facing 105 balls.

Since his debut, Overton has been a regular member of the England Test squad, where he has been praised for his ability to extract movement off the pitch and bowl long spells with great accuracy. He has also played in a few One-Day Internationals for the team.

In 2021, Overton delivered one of his best performances against India in the Oval Test, where he took career-best figures of 4/47 in the first innings. He also played a crucial role in the third Test of the series, where he was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance. He scored an important 32 runs in the first innings and took three wickets in the match, playing a crucial role in England’s victory.

Craig after extending his contract at Somerset in 2023,  went on to help them lift the T20 Blast in 2023, and has enjoyed successful periods of franchise cricket, both in The Hundred for Southern Brave and during the inaugural ILT20 with Mumbai Indians in the UAE in 2022.
